Jamaican Rhumba and Delicado by Percy Faith from the early 1950's played on a 1957 RCA SHF-5 console Hi-Fi on the original 1952 Columbia 78 records. The motorcycle rider taking off between record changing was unexpected. This RCA was bought at the same house where it was delivered brand new 50 years ago. It came with its original instructions, schematic, warranty card, and delivery ticket. It did play but after about an hour the sound deteriorated, so I replaced all the caps in the amp. It still has its original Sonotone 2T mono hi-fi cartridge, but has a stereo compatible stylus. It has its original factory finish that is in like new condition, with almost no blemishes or scratches. The lady that bought it new 50 years ago was a school teacher and she took very good care of everything she owned. An internet radio suggestion for listening to the great American classics from the 1920's to the 1980's in a 1950's style of broadcasting http://www.krli.net/

  • Hi maynardcat, I'm an Astrosonic kinda guy here and I have to say I don't think any of my Maggies can extract that kind of fidelity from a 78 and I've tried plenty! Your RCA is just beautiful, would love to have one like it, thanks for the video!

  • @Mrphatbastard1 Hi Thanks for the comment. This RCA does have a lot of Hi-Fi, but I am even more so of a Magnavox owner, not astrosonic, but tubes. I have two 1959 Imperials, a 1962 console, a 1954 console, a 1950, and a 1948 Magnavox Windsor. I only have the 1950 demonstrating the radio. , and the 1962 console stereo posted. I don't have any of the Imperials posted or the 1948 Windsor to date.

  • Gorgeous,absolutely gorgeous.

  • ...Sorry. I had the table model, which has a selenium rectifier. I didn't realize that this is a consol (looks very similar).

  • This is an incredible machine. Fidelity is out of this world! I had one a long time ago that I gave a way :(. ...Had to replace the selenium rectifier because it had reverse leakage, and caused hum and damaged the electrolytics. Definitely a machine worth owning. No disappointments.

  • @maynardcat Thanks for the response, WOW what could be better than a house full heavy breathing consoles? I just love this stuff, I've had to sell off some furniture to make room for the next Maggie project. When I get one it seems that they all need just about the same things so I stock up on things like caps including crossovers, cleaning, lubing, needles, carts, bulbs and alignments. Then comes the Pledge and it's off to find more vinyl!!! I've got to start posting...

  • Yes, thank you for posting the original Delicado. One of the best instrumentals of the early '50s, maybe THE best.

  • This is the superior original version of Delicado. Thanks for posting it.
