A little 10 minute video showing *some* of the features in a program I'm developing. It's a program for drawing turntable scratches and applying them to wave files. All scratches can be assigned to midi notes and triggered from anything that sends midi data. Currently it's a VSTi and a standalone program available at http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~afaulsti/skrasms/scratcher/scratcher.html

Please donate if you're using it and want to see it get better : ) Even $5 would be great!

  • Did you have to make any objects on your own for this? (c)

  • I did not make any Max objects in C++, but I did have to do a lot of javascript coding for JSUI objects to make the interface.

  • This is bay far the funniest (and also the better), Max/Msp application I ever seen. I happily noticed that it work also on my Mac-Intel, but there's some GUI issues (I think they are font-related) and this causes troubles to manage the upper warp markers. There's a way to fix this, and some hope to have also a mac-vst porting?

  • I definitely want to make a Mac port. The only problem is that right now I'm Mac-less.

  • Totally awesome usage of Max/MSP. That scratch editing window rocks!

That said, I would think you'd want to have real-time control of your scratch moves... to make it more playeble in addition to programmable.

  • I originally set out to make it a scratch sequencer of sorts, so right now you can trigger playback of any saved scratches from a midi controller (a feature I didn't manage to fit in to the 10 minute youtube time limit).

A few people are asking about incorporating graphics tablets, Ms. Pinky, and other input devices for recording scratching into it, so I hope to be able to add a lot more to it.

  • About 8 months ago I actually started the whole project over with DJ interaction in mind. I made a system for recording crossfader and vinyl movement from a real DJ. I put work into making it more intuitive, also.

If you're interested, do a youtube search for skrasms

Skrasoft is my old user account, and youtube won't let me log into it anymore.

  • Nice patch, with some great features on the interface.

However it all looks very technical for somthing as freestyle as scratching. I suggest you try to implement a system which can recognise a real scratch pattern from a Ms.Pinky record input. Also the audio cut movement with the fader is equally important.

Keep this project going buddy, your onto somthing good!

  • im lost

  • I would like to use the standalone version, the vst instrument I am using in acid pro and i cant change the bpm and it does not show the turntable. Let me know. Thanks. I would like to try this thing

  • Yo mama so fat she brings a knife to a gun fight!

  • WOW! OUTSTANDING! You've managed to somehow make a simple process overwhelmingly difficult.

I think the about inventions or software is that it's supposed to simplify a task e.g. a calculator.

there's a joke and maybe you've heard it (my guess is that you probably hear it all the time). it goes like this: "you're so stupid it takes you an hour to make minute rice." I have a strong feeling that, that joke is about you.
