Most of the tools you mentioned are (as you said) owned by the same parent company. Also, most of the tools you mentioned do the exact same job and the only "competition" arises from which company chooses to use which set of programs.

@meringu 3ds Max is typically used for TV/Games/Film and maybe some design/viz -it's main competition (or brothers since Autodesk has purchased most of them) would be Softimage/Maya/Houdini/Cinema4
D/Lightwave. Inventor is more used for mechanical design with SolidWorks/ProE/Autocad/Rhino3 d being competition. They are typically designed to integrate into the manufacturing process better. There is some overlap, esp. when you throw the word Design in there. -

I have used both and would say that Inventor is much easier to use than SolidWorks for people who use AutoCAD as well.
