This visualization shows clouds from a simulation using the Goddard Earth Observing System Model, Version 5 (GEOS-5.). The global atmospheric simulation ran at 3.5 km per grid cell and covered a single day: January 2, 2009. The model output the results at 10 minute intervals. Since there is only one day of simulation data, the sequence of clouds repeats several times. The white flash indicates the sequence is about to repeat.

  • May I suggest that this video put the date in the first words of the sentence so that there is no confusion about what time the animation is referring to? I nearly wrote a critical comment about this but clicked the link to show more of the description - but the description could have put the DATE right at the front of the whole thing. That would be super helpful.
