Neil Moret: Hiawatha, a Summer Idyll

Despite its name, this piece has no Native American associations. It was actually written while the composer was travelling by train to Hiawatha, Kansas in 1901, and the piece was named after the town. It became a huge hit, and was played by the Sousa band. 'Neil Moret' was actually Charles Daniels (1878-1943), who also wrote under the names Jules Lemare, L'Albert, Paul Bertrand, Julian Strauss, and Sidney Carter (when writing lyrics). A catchy tune (though Moret repeats it a little too often for my taste). It would sound great as merry-go-round music. :) Thank you for giving us a taste of turn-of-the-last-century popular tunes!
P.S. I didn't even know there was a Hiawatha, Kansas... :D

this song exists here on YT as a Dixieland-song too ( Hiawatha Rag Barber Chris 1990 ). But your piano arrangement is great! William.
