Formed back in 1986, a Greek psych/garage rock band from Athens, The Melting Ashes were a part of the mid 80s psych/garage rock global revival with contemporaries Mushrooms (from Thessaloniki) and Last Drive (from Athens). Their sound was pure 60s US Acid/Punk . I was lucky enough to see them live supporting Mushrooms at Rodon .Their delivery of Randy Alveys Green Fuz was absolutely mindblowing . This video is my tribute for the memories of that great gig .

Band members : Giorgos Anthinos (vocals/guitar), Sarantis Athanasiades (guitar), Kostas Anagnostopoulos (drums), Leonidas Papadakis (bass) . Papadakis was a member of Headquake , Raw and Spider' s web . Makis Faros (Raw,Spider's web) and Vasilis Pagounis were also members of the line up . The band split up in 1991 . Check out their Green Fuz L.P released by Wipe-out Records (Greece) . The band contributed tracks in two cpmpilations ,12 Raw Greek groups (1988) and Double Shot (1991) also released by Wipe-out .

The following review of their LP is by Crohinga Well @ http://psychedelic-music.net

The Melting Ashes were formed in 1986 and did a limited number of gigs enlivened by slide shows and audience participation before splitting up in the spring of 1988. Their only vinyl appearance had been on a rather low-fi sampler called "12 Raw Greek Groups". They had recorded a few demos in the last months of their existence, however, and Wipe Out decided to do a posthumous album in order to please the band's hard-core fans. "Green Fuzz 1987" was released in early 1991 and is well worth getting, even if it represents the hard side of the group rather than the psychedelic notes their music was shot through with.

Below is a review of their L.P. at rainydaymushrooms.blogspot.com .

The group was formed in 1986 and split up in 1988. Some years later their manager (Theodore Kritharis, owner of label)
reworked the recorded demos of 1987 along with some x-members of the band and released this "diamond".

A psychedelic garage record. One of the most important bands in their kind.
It contains 2 fantastic cover versions (GREEN FUZZ & I'M ON MY WAY).

  • I like this one. But my super favorite in this album is the song "I'm on my Way" ... unfortunately can't find it here. If anyone of you guys have it, just upload it and let me know ... thank you!

  • Best cover I've heard except for The Cramps version. All the other bands seem to have missed the point.

  • Fukkin stormin'

  • This the best version of this song I have heard for such an obscure jam!!! I like it alot too!!!
