The Duke went out in this movie like he went out in real life, standing tall. The movie could have been a real crappy, sappy piece but it was well done.

This movie is a small masterpiece! Bernstein 's music adds to the overall effect. Director Don Siegel uses a of of "John Fordisms" from other Wayne films. Look carefully and you will see them!

It's almost noticeable...Bernstein's saying goodbye to the Duke, whom ironically died of cancer the same way as this lead character did. Vale Duke...there will never be your like again.

John Wayne was already dying as this movie was shot.
It's a really good movie and shows that John Wayne was a true presence on the screen until the end.
