Had an 03 Chevy S10 come in with complaint of inoperative 4WD, found the front axle not engaging. I found the coupler and driven gear to ground up a bit and the washer broke. The cause of this is a transfer case vacuum switch the was sticking so the front axle would not fully disengage..

  • Excellent video. Can you tell me where you can buy the components necessary to fix this problem? Also, can this repair be accomplished by simply pulling the passenger axle tube?

  • @gearycowboy it is a bad vaccum line. i just had the same problem, and if you trace the line it goes from the accuator up by the distributor then drops down and runs on the left side of the transmission then goes ontop of the back of the transmission over to the transfer case. there is a hole in that line somewhere.... mine was where it crossed the transmission it was rubbing against the body of the truck.

  • Dose that vacuum actuator ever get stuck closed? My trucks front axle actuator dosent get any vac at all.
