RIVER RUN FAST
River run fast, river run deep
Catbird in the treetop fast asleep
Got a lifeload of sorrow
Muddy and wide
Lord, lord, can you hear me talking
I've run out of running, tired of walking
Cross me over to the other side
You could stop the water with one mighty hand
Turn the riverbed into bone dry land
Lord, lord, hear my prayer
You watch over this big old world
Tree, hill and valley
Boy and girl
Every nobody, going nowhere
Can you gather me up a bucket full of stars
Hear there's fields of them up where you are
Drop them down, easy and slow
I'd throw them on the river one by one
Stepstone cross, when I'm done
Lord, lord, don't you know
Have mercy on this lonely sinner
Send down the winds of an early winter
Cold, rain and snow
Freeze this river, so I can cross over
To the land of honey and clover
Lord, lord, I just got to go
FIRST VERSE
