Mahatma Gandhi was born in India, educated in England, and returned to practice law in Bombay, India. Discriminated against in his native land, he went to Durban, South Africa, where he again found massive discrimination and inequality. He returned to India, once again, this time to lead a program of non-violent, passive resistance, in what became India's march to independence.

This video explains the process of creating an Art Miles Mural commemorating Gandhi's life. A giclee' copy will be made from the original mural and presented as a gift to Arun Gandhi, grandson of MK Gandhi, at the Gandhi Nonviolence Awards as part of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the United Nations. Art Miles supports the ideology of UNESCO's Culture of Peace, and of Gandhi's teaching.

This mural is but one of 1600 murals created thus far by the many people who paint for peace, and is but a sample of the effect Art Miles Mural Project has on those who paint the murals, and those who view them.
