Tired of letting professional dancers have all the fun? Described by the San Francisco Chronicles C.W. Nevius as inspired foolishness, tomfoolery on a grand and witty scale, the Dance-Along Nutcracker lets the audience concoct its own choreography beneath the colored spotlights. While the Band performs Nutcracker favorites like Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and Waltz of the Flowers, sugar plum wannabes leap and pirouette about the dance floor. Tutus and fairy wands are available for those with nothing to wear. Here, wallflowers have as much fun as dancers.
At the 2008 Dance-Along Nutcracker: Bah Humbug!, crazy clockmaker Uncle Drosselmeyer gets a good haunting from a bevy of ghosts when he turns down Claras Christmas party. Performed by the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band, conducted by Guest Conductor Jadine Louie, the wackiest Nutcracker on earth stars Trauma Flintstone and features Carolyn Carvajal, Pickle Family Circus skater Tom Sellars, Corrine Levy, Juan Crovetto... and you! Saturday, December 13 (2:30 pm/7 pm Gala); and Sunday, December 14 (11 am & 3 pm), at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, 701 Mission Street in San Francisco. Gala Night Show with City Swing Big Band and holiday reception $50. Afternoon shows: $24 general admission/$16 children & seniors. Box office: Yerba Buena Center for the Arts; http://www.ybca.org/, 415/978-ARTS. Info: 415/255-1355.
