  • Colossal performance after colossal performance from Easy Goer.

  • @EASYGOER4LIFE I agree 100%. The Easy had the strength to excell in his final furlongs no matter what the pace. He was not in the shape, toned in and condition like Secretariat was in his Triple Crown races. I truly believe that. Maybe McGaughley was afraid to work him to hard because of his knees & ankles. I just do not know. They are a lot of stories still untold that we probably never know.

  • @EASYGOER4LIFE Like I said I believe his trainer did not train The Big Easy like Secretariat was. Guess I was right. I did not know his trainer babied him in his workouts. I do know he had a few very fast workouts. Those workouts were probably the ones he had before the races he did exceptionally well. When Secretariat had great workouts he always won and won big. His last workout 2 days before the Whitney was not impressive at all. McGaughhey did not get all of The Easy potential out of him.

  • Secretariat's Belmont was not start and stop, it was start and never stop at all going 12f. I agree somewhat about Slew and Bid. Slew did beat Affirmed twice that year. Bid's competition was not great(Flying Paster and Glorious were good but not great) and he did run those very fast races on highways. Though when Bid got beat by Affirmed at 3 yrs old, he got beat less than a length against an older horse. They all weren't Secretariat, never said they were.

  • Those amazing final times are amazing considering the pace in the 73' Derby and even the Preakness were moderate early pace's,47.2,1:11.8,1:36.2and 48.2,1:11.4 when he took the lead early in the race with no pace. Secretariat was great in slow paced races and fast paced races, and so was Easy Goer was also

  • Sounds to me like Easy Goer had alot of that great finishing power and great final times and amazing performances that Secretariat had. Secretariat's Derby,Preakness and Belmont and Marlboro Cup races were out of this world, probably the best ever, and I don't care how fast the tracks were or were playing in either horse's races.

  • And also not only that, his own very young trainer at the time, like 36 yrs old, said he "babied him" in alot of his training, now maybe it was due to his extremely bad ankles, knees and club feet, I don't know. But you can't "baby him" going against a master trainer like a Whittingham or an Allen Jerkens or a Woody Stephens for that matter.

  • What I mean by start and stop, start and stop, is that when Easy Goer made his huge move or was sent to make his his huge move, Day said" he would let him down and give him a breather". Easy Goer was big, powerhouse, locomotive, with long and powerful strides, it is my opinion that a horse like this, a horse like Easy Goer, should not have been ridden with baby hands, kid gloves, start then stop, start then stop "I let him down and gave him a breather" against SS specifically in two outs.
