  • i think record companies will become obsolete

  • hopefully record companies will open their ears to beautiful music and not focus on just what's going to make them the most money because of what's popular. you always hear people say "come on! i want something new! i want something fresh!" but when a band pops it out they say "oh that won't sell!!" and then they spit out the same crap as before. that is my rant on popular media and record companies :) Prog Metal ftw!

  • Cool background.

  • @chrissycroken but the music BUSINESS, the way it has been run under large record companies, is about money, not music

  • i think many of the people get inspired by the kinda 'life' the big artists live, which sumtimes leads to discovering their talents!

If the attraction is taken out then?

It would be best to generate money indirectly by coming up with some plans and not directly as in selling the album to the consumer, which is decreasing day by day.

  • yeah but being able to live off of your music ain't bad haha plus it gives you more time to focus on music. but i do agree with you in the sense that music should not be about making money and getting rich

  • Interesting comments though in my experience internet/studio-based musicians lack performance experience, which used to be how bands were groomed. You gigged incessantly, sharpened your performance skills, and kept doing it whether anyone was listening or not. Yet most internet musos want to sit back , produce in the studio, though when it comes time to gig, they lack performance chops, which leads to medicore shows. sure, the "old way" has its problems but at least bands could actually play.

  • of course music is about only about music, but try making good music if you work 10hrs/day and have a family. the money issue comes in when one needs the music to sustain him/her financially and be able to dedicate more time to music alone. i guess you have no experience in this...

  • Yes, I'm using youtube to show my music to the world.

  • Record COmpanies are like Oil Companies, they aint goin out of business, not so long as we want their products.

  • They will!
