2 different versions of the musical inspiration for the Kate Bush song.

The second, more primitive-sounding recording starts at 3:20. I do not know the name of the group that performed it.

The first version is performed by The Unicorn Ensemble and is available on itunes.

  • The first recording of Nevestinko Oro is by the Unicorn Ensemble and is available on iTunes. I used to have the second recording as well, but I've forgotten the ensemble performing.

  • @cloudbusting101 Thanks -- I don't know the name of the ensemble performing the second version either. It was given to me on a blank CD ten or more years ago.

  • Mmmmm did Kate really just lift this tune call it her own and no credit given?? Or did it come from the musicians who were working on TSW with Kate ??? I neeeeeed to know. Well it won't change my life if I don't in full fairness 

  • @Ayrkashka This is an old Macedonian tune, the composer is unknown. Kate Bush did write the melody and lyrics for her song "The Sensual World," and this tune is playing only under hers as a contrast, and only during the chorus. The new version, called "Flower Of The Mountain," will of course feature words written by James Joyce (as was Kate's original intention, but she could not procure the rights in 1989).

  • @robbjmc Kate acknowledged this song frequently back in '89 when she wrote the first version of "The Sensual World." Paddy Bush brought it to her attention.

  • @keithdeweese I've heard that the use of "Nevestinko" was mentioned in a Kate Bush newsletter at the time (or perhaps it was in an issue of "Homeground"). And this is not the first time Kate has adapted another tune for "incidental" use in her songs: look up "Tsintskaro" to hear the original Georgian chant of "Hello Earth." Also listen to DeBussy's "Clair de Lune" ("You Want Alchemy") and "When You Wish Upon A Star" ("In Search Of Peter Pan"). Generally, though, the composers have been unknown.
