The bizarre scene played out live on television and prompted fears that the flying saucer-shaped balloon would crash with the young child inside.
A sheriff's official said the boy climbed into a box attached to balloon, but the basket was not found at crash.
Eyewitnesses say they saw something drop from the air prompting authorities to perform a ground search for the boy.
The child was identified as Falcon Heene, the son of Richard Heene, a Colorado weather-chaser. The boy and his family — mother, Mayumi and brothers, Ryo and Bradford — first appeared on the ABC series "Wife Swap" on Oct. 3, 2008 and were voted back for the 100th episode of the show, which aired on March 13, 2009.

A similar kind of hoax happened in my home town when a new commercial TV network started broadcasting there for the first time. It needed to get noticed. To get noticed, its first main local story was that a house in our rural area was haunted. They claimed that it was claimed that strange things happen at this house. It was later well apparent that it was a hoax. But, they got customers
The moral of my story? Never rely on a commercial news network to give you the truth about anything.
Oh wait....... This family was on WIFE SWAP"?????? This story just took another bizarre turn... Somehow, I don't think we've heard the last of this just yet.
Burning question of the day..... Who is more retarded, the people chasing this balloon story or the morons on that school board in New York who suspended a highly decorated EAGLE SCOUT for having a 2" pocket knife in the trunk of his car?????
