But in Act V he has the herbs for you to pick up under the envelope on the table to use

Is that what it was? It's been ages. There's probably a point difference somehow if you grab them early as opposed to later.

what do you need those herbs you picked for?

Whoops, major delayed reply. The herbs are used to cure Ben Franklin's gout problem in Act V. I know that if you start off from Act V you'll already have the herbs in your possession; I'm not sure what would happen if you forgot to retrieve them. I doubt Sierra would be mean enough to make a child's game impossible to complete. (Other games, yes, children's games, no.)

There should be some medicine under one of the desks near Old Franklin. I don't recall having herbs if I start a new game in Act V ... but then again, I've not played this game for a long time, so I might not remember correctly. I do remember that there is some medicine near Old Franklin though, as an alternative solution besides using the herbs from Act I.

@HeliosExeunt Correct. The replacement herbs should be under Old Ben's papers on his desk. (I think.)
