Ask a professor of Middle Eastern Studies at any prestigious university and they will tell you the language is Persian when you are referring to it in English, and Farsi when you are speaking Farsi.
I should know, I got yelled at in my Farsi class at UT for calling it Farsi when I was speaking English... haha
