Consultant and former NASA employee nails british TV news on their claim that astronauts flew aboard the Shuttle drunk. They didn't. The issue reported involved a Suyuz launch and a T-38 flight. But worse, the press has missed the bigger story - astronauts are not subject to the same medical screening as civil servants

  • I love how the rumor the flights involved were a T-38 and a Soyuz is

being reported as fact - even by Jim oberg

  • Evidently 'get your story straight' goes for you too. Rumors? Have you read the transcript of the July 27 news conference? Responding to questions from the members of the press the chairman of the review committee said specifically that the incidents referred to in the report related in once case to a T-38 flight following a cancelled Shuttle mission. He also referred specifically to prelaunch ceremonies in Russia.

  • Both of which need to be reviewed. There's no proof of drunks yet on any missions. Probably you need to sober up before you spew bullshit.

  • Chill dude! Nothing I wrote above is anything but a statement of fact. You may not like those facts but that doesn't make them bullshit. As I pointed out (and you ignored) the facts (not rumors as you suggest) are that the problem, if it occurred at all, was not on the Shuttle--which was one of Jim's points.

  • The anchorman's description of Mr Oberg as merely a 'former Nasa trainee' was mistaken, and severely downplays Oberg's knowledge & experience. Oberg was a NASA engineer for over 20 years, and received awards for his work in orbital rendezvous techniques and mission planning. As far as I know, he was never an 'astronaut trainee'.

  • Oberg is a super journalist and a sterling individual. He's totally dedicated to truth, no matter whose warts are exposed.

  • @Tailspint Well tell the old coot that Zorgon says Hi :~P

  • @jackj2003 Yeah I noticed that too denying while confirm LOL JimO at his finest. I would like to hear his explanation of why NASA tried to hide the Airline Safety study that they spent 8.5 million on and then tried to cover it up, even telling employees to delete files. Congress had to step in to order them to release it. We still don't have it 4 years later. It showed how many pilots of commercial airlines fly drunk

  • @standauffish Yup, I've known Jim since mid-70s, visited him at Houston Space Flight Center. He had a 22-year career as a space engineer in Houston, where he specialized in NASA space shuttle operations for orbital rendezvous, as a contractor employee. He worked at the Johnson Space Center in Houston 1975-1997. He was named by the NASA-Area "Association of Technical Societies" as their 1984 "Technical Person of the Year".

  • @FlyingFoxOz Show me his documentation that he was a NASA engineer... otherwise he is just a guy selling books. I mean fair is fair, because he demands documents from others like Ken Johnston and Clark C. McClelland

At least this explains why the Safety Study NASA was commissioned to do on drunk flying was covered up LOL (google it)

  • haha! god damn, you can't stop those damn drunk drivers no matter what their driving.

  • Would you ride on the Space Shuttle sober ?

  • He is getting up in years and is probably on some medication that causes this. Your slanderous comment will be ignored.

  • I'd like to see his fist land on your face.
