This is an "action" gunboat I got from Buzz's Boatyard. It's about 6" long and has articulating guns which pop up and down with the operation of the boiler. Very entertaining. This boat is made of tin and unfortunately the seams didn't hold water tight. Shortly after shooting this clip, the boat started sinking lower and lower until it capsized into the pond and was lost. Went down like the Titanic. It's a shame because it was a very good running boat with neat sound and personality.

  • Yep. Lost as sea. On this very run actually. Not to worry, though. I've got 2 more of the gunboats now. Sealed the seams on the new ones with silicone. I haven't run any pop pop boats since last spring. I'll have to get out there soon and do it again.

  • I saw the vid of the pirate boat burning to the waterline. It is a shame as that boat had a lot of work in it. I need to get a Super Tug X, but Buzz is out and the the only place I've seen them is on ebay for probably ~$35 with shipping and such. Rattandeep is no longer in business but a company in India called Lexman's art emporium makes 20 cm tugs with big engines so maybe more will be available.

  • Yeah, I really like the Super Tug X. Bought it on ebay since it seemed to be the cheapest way to get one now. It's actually just a Thunder Cruise with a cabin and chimney. Makes it a bit slower than the TC. Didn't know that Rattandeep is no more. What a shame. I just got into these pop pops recently so I'm glad I bought some of their boats while they're still available. I'll be building another pirate boat soon with more attention to fire-proofing it.

  • I've enjoyed your other vids as well, including your bigger boats. I've uploaded several vids today of my Thunder Cruise and Super Tug X in action on the big pond. Those boats are much more at home in a place like that(no seams in the hull). I was inspired to buy them after hearing them run on your vids. I also intend to buy the Jumbo Boat.

  • I bought a magnet today and plan to "dredge" for it tomorrow but don't expect good results. If Buzz still has them in stock, I plan to buy a couple more and only use them in my kiddie pool. No more deep ponds for this style boat. If you watch my other vids, you'll see that I lost another boat today as well. By fire! The boiler lost it's prime, then then overheated the epoxy and caused the whole boat to burn down. It was one that I had just finished making.

  • was this the one which capsized on the day that the pirate caught fire

  • You need to get a big magnet and go fishing for it. I left my three boats in the bowl I was testing them in and two sank over night. Sealed the transom seams with some glue to make water tight. Tried putting some styrofoam under the front deck as a safety item and they would still would not float when swamped. Maybe some foam under the rear deck might help.
