This is video of the Cougar monument installed at Martin Stadium on the Washington State University campus on 11-20-08. The video was produced by Tim Marsh, Asst. Director of University Relations. You can hear the Cougar band playing the fight song in the background. The sculpture is titled Cougar Pride, and was commissioned and donated to WSU by Gary Schneidmiller (WSU '71) and created by Spokane artists Mike and Chester Fields. It was dedicated on the morning of Nov. 22nd, just before the 101st Apple Cup in which WSU beat UW 16-13 in double OT. The Cougar monument and base weight an estimated seven tons, and stands almost exactly on the site of the cage where WSU's live Cougars (all named Butch) were housed. The last live Butch died in 1978 at age 15.
