Having your body finely in tune with the movement of the Trikke can take a long time. I'm not saying that you won't be able to ride up hill in a short time, but rather the nuances of optimal position between the front and back at the right time, the right amount of turn in the handle bars, combine all that with the push of the rest of your body and there is a lot going on. After two years of riding the Trikke, I first tried to climb hills using this reverse around the outside motion. I found I was unable to do it at first. The front wheel was sliding and I lost so much momentum because of in-optimal (if that's a word) handle bar position and I just couldn't do it. Anyway I persisted and there you have it. A solid upper body push, with the right amount on the outside edge, combined with the correct pressure on the handle bar. Initially I found that I was heavy handed on the handle bar and eventually lightening my grip ended up being the right solution.
So if you're up for the ultimate (slightly different) up hill challenge, give this one a try!
