I get all the way to the change just fine. I am trying to lighten part of the picture, but when I lchange the brightness and contrast, the entire picture lightens. What am I doing wrong?

Thank u! :D
A lot of people have trouble with the checkered squares not showing up. You probably haven't made the first layer (the one underneath) invisible. Click on the eyeball next to the layer to make layer invisible. The checkered squares merely represent the ABSENSE of an image. I only make the layer invisible to see what I am doing. What you are doing afterwards when you make the layer visible is you are changing the color of the WHOLE layer that is underneath but only part of it is showing.

Make sure you have the underneath layer selected before you start altering the color =P

What I do is merge all the layers when I'm done with one mask. Then make another copy of the layer for the new mask.
