The Boeing YAL-1 Airborne Laser Testbed, (formerly Airborne Laser) weapons system is a megawatt-class chemical oxygen iodine laser (COIL) mounted inside a modified Boeing 747-400F. It is primarily designed as a missile defense system to destroy tactical ballistic missiles (TBMs), while in boost phase. The aircraft was designated YAL-1A in 2004 by the U.S. Department of Defense.

The YAL-1 with a low-power laser was test-fired in flight, at an airborne target in 2007.[2] A high-energy laser was used to intercept a test target in January 2010, and the following month, successfully destroyed two test missiles.

  • STAR TREK HERE WE COME :d

  • I'll take two please.

  • @blueisok2 i think ? this weapon is most likely is missused as weather weapon rather than deffensive , we both know how crazy those people in power can get in their greed lol

  • @blueisok2 its true , but still to date ? we havent reached absulute zero , it does exsist thou , the problem is there are things out there more to it than the eye can see , mercury is used to reflect photons , yeas laser is a ray of photons , and it can do damage to a mirror , but not if the mirrors are somehow reinforced , you also have to understand for every offensive weapon ? there is a deffensive 1 , AND ? vice versa

  • nice i just hope it really works.

  • @AnunnakiThe1 :The definition of absolute zero is absence of motion on the molecular level... Therefore less than no motion is an oxymoron... Please think about it [carefully, pulease ;-) ]

  • @chico68Ve mirrored or not - doesn´t play any role. Its missile mate, whats difference between torpedo and missile? Right, lots of IR.

  • Wow, good start !
