depends on the native rez, playtime & compression you use.
standard dvd's are usually under 720x576 resolution, so they arent hd by any means.

the dvds can be ripped into 700 to 1200 meg avi
the bd can be ripped to mp4 in mkv container with sizes from 1.6 to 2.5 gig.

you could easily compress all those 8gb dvd's with handbrake to 2-3gb with no loss in quality, and the blu rays can go down to 8gigs with very little loss. so 4 2tb drives would easily cover it. it would take a long time to encode all those vids tho(about 3 hours per dvd with a modern quad core). also, free programs like dvdshrink can handle dvds perfectly fine, but blu-ray ripping would need something like anydvd HD.
