The lumbar punctures I've seen done use a fluoroscope to assist in guiding the needle. Takes a lot of the guess work out of it.

I did a lumbar puncture on my cat during med school. She can only walk sideways now.

That's the anaesthatis way of giving a spinal. Most of the rest of us also use a local anaesthetic before introducing the LP needle

@medicaleducation The recommendation is supine postition for 1-2 hours. Not more, not less. Post LP headache is poorly understood.

Sorry about your experience. Headache is common if the lowered CSF pressure is not countered by lying down.Thats THE only post procedure advice anyone really needs, i guess.
Lie down for a day or so.
Most people do understand other things like keeping the puncture area clean and dry.
