what are you using to film? a web cam. vad video, nothing but pauses.

Hi Rick - we've just finished making a full feature film, using a mic plugged directly into the camera, along with headphones for our boom operator! It worked fine and we never really had any problems. For shots from far away, we filmed without sound, and then dubbed in later, and it worked really well

subscribed you. learned some new stuff here. thanks.

@dmctactic Cheap mics give low quality sound. 3d sound means nothing if it's a crap sound.

Thanks for this video, Rick - you REALLY managed to clear up a lot of info (and help to make my mind up on some equipment choices :D) Do you know how the H2 does with 'handling noises'? Like how much abrasion it can take on the exterior before it interferes with the intended recording?
Thanks a lot, sir!

@freestylefilmsinc for that price you won't get anything. You need to spend around 70+

@freestylefilmsinc not that I know of - sorry.

The Zoom H4 has a pair of XLR/Ins on the bottom of it. I bet that could be very useful if your using a pair of wireless lavalier mics.

@cratedigger89 I like the look of the H4 - but it is twice the price of the H2 - which works well with a single lavalier mic.

i have the zoom h2 . . . how far away from speaker can it be stationed? i'm planning on filming a group of elders sharing stories with eachother and use the h2 as my main mic. if, they're sitting in a circle, can i just station the h2 in the middle?

@MiloTearoa as long as the room is quiet, it should be ok. you may need to boost the volume in post production editing. best thing would be to do a couple of practice runs and see what results you get.
