This video shows the routing concepts and techniques needed to use all 4 of Thor's inputs and outputs to make really complex, evolving and dynamic synth patches based around Thor's expansive filter sections. Thor itself is an absolute beast, but when used in combinations of other forms of synthesis and other devices it's true power is unlocked.

Here, we're using 2 Malstrom synths and some new routing and cabling options in the first patch to show how this needs to be set up. The second part of the video is a creative patch that I made that shows how to truly make Thor an instrument like one you've never seen. One with the ability to change the entire scope of the patch and sound on-the-fly. Watch the Annotations in the video for a full explanation of the internal Thor routing I used for the second patch, I didn't have enough time to talk about it in the video.

Part 1 (Thor as a Switchable Filter) can be found here -

Any suggestions on future topics would be greatly appreciated. I'll try my best to make it happen so, seriously, get at me! I'm thinking of doing one on ReGroove or the Matrix Pattern Sequencer.... or maybe more on Thor!

As always, thanks for watching!

  • Hi, thanks for posting this video, I am wondering if you can input Redrum into Thor? I am trying and it doesn't seem to be working, maybe I am making a mistake? Thankyou, and thanks for putting so much effort into this video!

  • @enkryptid Connect Redrum Master Outs L&R to Audio Inputs 1&2 in Thor's Rear Panel. In Thor's routing matrix, set your source as Audio Input 1, Amt of 100 and Dest as Filter 3 Left. Repeat for Audio input 2 and Filter 3 Right. Make sure you are record-enabled on the redrum and not the thor. Make sure that Thor's midi inputs are turned off in the Trigger section.

If that doesn't work, read it again and keep trying.... cuz that will work.

  • your video does not play.

  • @8messa yes it does. im watching it less than an hour after you tried. i would be most willing to assume the error was logistical... probably on the you tube end...

  • @SirSedricMusic where did you learn all this routing and synth stuff?

  • @Tr0ll321 Mostly from the manual.. and some from other YouTube channels when I first started...

  • @ericdanjah poor baby doesn't like my videos?

Don't watch em then. Either they are useful, or they are not... They're free, so that just makes you a whiner.

  • Why Go Through All That When You Kan Just Kreate Another Mixer. Duh!!!!

  • @DiggyOnDaTrack The point is to use thors filters as standalone

  • @DiggyOnDaTrack The purpose of this video is to show the theory behind using all of the inputs and outputs, just a concept. I'm not quite sure what you mean by creating another mixer though...

Some of us look at music and want to achieve the quickest results. Some of us are bound by a natural curiosity and therefore look deeper, perhaps sacrificing timeliness in the process.

If you can harness all 4 ins and outs of Thor with your "Just Kreate Another Mixer" technique, more power to you!
