  • i love this tenor he is one of my favorites

  • Yes, our great loss. He died in 2002 at 58, still in wonderful voice. He's too little appreciated, especially considering how well he managed his voice from early bel canto and Mozart roles through the French and German rep to acclaim in Wagner.

    R.I.P. Gösta - a special singer.

What a great loss. Gorgeous singer!

    Bravo!

  • Det här rör mig till tårar - alltid!

  • Au poteau! Au poteau! EN FRANçAIS sur le scène d'un théâtre français!

  • What a great loss! He was one of my favorite tenors. He spanned Mozart, Wagner and the Italian masters....all with the same energy and superb artistry. I was privileged enough to work with him and be mentored by him during training with the Chicago Lyric young artist program. Thanks for posting!!! Great artist and wonderful man!

    I agree wholeheartedly!

  • I heard Winbergh as Lonhengrin and Walther in Stockholm. Both were quite amazing. He was almost overpoweringly commanding in this scene: at a point were most tenors are beginning to feel the strain of the evening and begin to push, Winbergh still seemed full of power and lyricism. The same could be said of his Prize Song in Meistersinger.

As a Mozart Tenor Gosta Winbergh is considered one of best ever. Your opinion is what it is but goes in stark contrast to many of the very best conductors and singers. That is including Karajan and Muti whom I know considered him very highly. Regarding your Wagner remark when i heard him live singing Lohengrin in Los Angeles years ago it was one of the best Lohengrins i have ever heard.
