Every day of first grade
written by me

if we were kids together
I would be your buddy
i'd put in your cubby
a ninja turtles valentines card

I'd use the washable markers
and pieces of cut out paper
put it all together
to make you a great big heart

and if you liked them I would
share my fruit snacks too
I don't mind holding hands with you
they say girls have cooties,
but I just don't care

adults would smile
and call it puppy love but they
know nothing of the way
I would feel about you
every day of first grade

I would make a butterfly
house out of lincoln logs
surrounded with lego trees
invite you to come and build with me

I would set a table
with the finest plastic foods
make a finger paint
masterpiece just for you

and this rescue ranger valentines
is enough for me to know you're mine
so I'll keep on saving you a place in line
right before me as we go outside
