This isn't going to be the most exciting video in the series, I'm afraid. But I felt it was important to show the story. The game is otherwise light on exposition, but this is the beginning, afterall. If you don't care and just want to see the stage, jump to 5:45. It's like Spiritia already knows where everything is or something.

This is going to be a Buste - um, Seele Gewehr-only run, meaning I'm going to use my basic weapon to defeat... pretty much everything. Unlike most Mega Man games, you can beat every single boss without a special weapon in RKS.

The short version of the below: If you like this game, go to DLSite and buy it, or I'll eat your liver. Seriously, it's less than fifteen dollars, and there's a link below to DLSite's RKS purchase page. Thank you. Also, Schwer and Schwer Alike (see what they did there?) and Darkside Translations did a great job on the translation. If you want to play the game in English once you've bought it, visit their sites and grab the patch.

The wall of text version: I've since decided to record a playthrough of the entire game for two reasons: one, Schwer and Schwer Alike and Darkside Translations have teamed up to provide an extraordinary translation of the game into English, allowing a wider audience to know just what the hey is going on. This isn't a chop and paste job, here; this is a professional, admirable effort that could teach official publishers a thing or two. It's also more than a translation; it's a -localization-, a valuable difference many translation teams could stand to learn, and the attention to detail, especially in the Game Over screens, which are chock full of references to other games, is impressive.

The other reason is a bit more somber: the game has sold criminally badly. As of this writing, the re-release of the game, in existence since July of 2009, has sold twenty copies on DLSite. Darkside has reported several hundred downloads of the translation patch, which released around the same month as the re-release; it is highly unlikely that all of those downloads, or even most of them, are from people who purchased the original release of the game, especially considering the game was unavailable for some time before the re-release.

Frankly, that's plain sad. Not only is this game a great tribute to both Rockman and Akumajo Dracula (Castlevania), and to classic gaming in general, but it has great level design, an excellent atmosphere, a soundtrack that's to die for, and a fun sense of humor. To see that so many people aren't willing to fork over so little money for it is pathetic.

No, this video series isn't going to get the world to buy and play RosenkreuzStilette. No, this video series isn't going to keep small, independent developers from getting their efforts wasted by piracy. But if even one person enjoys this enough to buy and play this excellent game, I'll have done something worthwhile. And heck, it'd be nice for Schwer and Darkside to get a little more attention, too, because they deserve it.

DLSite's RKS purchase page. The site will warn you about adult content, but there is no such content at that page, nor any page that leads you to the purchase and download of the game; the adult content, while present on the site itself, is separate. Assuming you care in the first place.

Schwer and Darkside's sites. Check out their stuff, or tell them what a good job they did, or offer to have their children, or maybe offer TDOMMX a cookie.

erka:es, the developer's, website. It's in Japanese, but I dunno; go there anyway.

  • Lol, Freudia

  • Well, thank you kindly. We put a lot of time and energy into the English version, and I'm glad it shows.

I hope you have enough cookies for Mint, Tanin, and Akira. Don't offer to have my children, though; I might just hold you to your word.

Our aim was to give RKS a professional release despite a lack of professional assets. Though we had [erka:es]'s permission, we had none of their source files, which is why we had to rebuild / replace a few graphics here and there.
