One of the finest melodies ever written for the stage, Lerner and Lowe's Gigi became the title song to one of their best loved musicals. The famous 1958 movie starring Leslie Caron transferred to the stage in a 1973 production which included many new songs. Again my inspiration for this arrangement, like all my videos is based upon the original Irwin Kostal orchestrations.
@AlbryFC. Y do you keep telling me all this? I KNOW all this background info. Do I insult you by pointing out the obvious? How about: GIGI was a celluloid experiment by MGM, messrs. Lerner, Loewe, Freed and Vincente Minnelli, etc., etc. Don't display your illiteracy by pointing out what I've already posted. Geez.

Much later came the stage musical, based on the film. The arrangements for the STAGE version were written by Irwin Kostal (superb arranger in my opinion), but the original FILM arrangements were written by the great Conrad Salinger and conducted by André Previn.
Beautiful piano solo rendition of the songs. This is one of my very favourite songs. :o)

@mylesag2 Hello!! Gigi was originally a short novel (or novella) by French author Colette, which then became a 'straight' play (no music). Minnelli and other workers at MGM saw the play but didn't like the character of the mother, so they rewrote the story and took the mother out (who remains as the annoying rehearsing soprano) and developed instead the relationship between Gigi and her grandmother (something I'm glad they did, because I adore Hermione Gingold as Madame Alvarez).

Actually, it WASN'T a book. It was a novella. There is a fine difference.

"GIGI" was originally written for the SCREEN. It was an original filmusical. The stage version came later in 1973. R u sure Irwin Kostal? Andre Previn was the film's musical director.

I clicked on this video expecting to see a clip from "Gigi". I was pissed that it was not. Then I thought, "Oh, it's just some guy playing the piano. Then I thought "Wow, I love this". Then I turned the sound up. Then I loved it. Then I loved you.
