This is my bicycle cargo trailer I built from a child carrier bike trailer. I used quarter inch plywood and bolted it to the trailer frame using 3 inch carriage bolts. Metal brackets for the reflector brackets. Eye-bolts to strap cargo to the trailer, and some metal flashing for a "bumper" to keep the wood from getting marred. For the hitch I used a fence bracket meant for attaching a gate to a fence post. The bracket bolts to the bike frame (no holes in the frame). And I drilled a hole through the bracket to attach the trailer tongue using a 4 inch carriage bolt and wing nut to tighten it. The trailer comfortably carries 50 pounds, and has carried up to 180 pounds. It has full range of motion at the hitch and does not tip over. The cost for building it was about 20 dollars. The trailer itself weighs 30 pounds.

  • I'll have to do that. I just used the trailer this week and it worked great. I actually found two bicycles that I carried on it (one at a time). I also found another bike trailer. The tires were flat and it needs some hitch work, so I just strapped it to this trailer and it fit perfectly. It's the older kind that has the plastic base, rather than a cloth one like the newer ones have. I'm not sure what I'll use it for just yet. I have a feeling my niece and nephew might get rides in it.

  • When I need to carry smaller cargo items, I have the bottom to a large dog crate that I strap to it. I went that route because I didn't want to use side boards. Weight was really something I was thinking about. Austin is hilly, so I wanted it to be lightweight so I could still carry a lot of cargo on it. It's already paid for itself.

  • Thanks. Man the microphone on my camera made me sound funny. I sound like Hank Hill. LOL

  • luv your quote "find bicycles people are throwing away". Why do people throw away perfectly good bicycles (and other valuable stuff). i once found an entire drum set being thrown out, took it, played with it for awhile, and eventually sold it on craigslist for $100!!

  • make a nuther vid of you riding it

  • Cool rig! Save the bikes!
