Now The thing with you not seeing any shot up civvies? Well... American news networks are kinda... fearmongers. They find everything bad that happened, as fast as they can. Then they tell us 'Holy Shit It's worse than we thought!' We kinda have assholes in charge of the news 'round these parts. I wouldn't be surprised at all if crime is actually a lot.... less than implied.

True, but in the same ballpark of arguments; Knives are tools that just as easily chop onions and stab innocent folk. Gunna ban kitchen ware? Self-Defense is something most people don't like. Do it wrong, someone dies, Do it right, someone probably dies. Doing it right at least kills the 'bad' guy. I'll take dead aggressors over dead 'just minding my own business' folk any day.

I want to let you know at this point that I've been playing "devil's advocate". I could care less about the gun control legislation as I will never own a gun

That being said, I totally agree with you in the situations you describe, within reason. A gun, may trump 350 lbs. of muscle. But I personally would not, no, could not, shoot to kill. There are probably other options. Also, in that kind of situation, you're most likely not going to be chanced with having a gun with you, so plan accordingly

I'm going to make something very clear here, You need to pay attention. This is important.

Mercy is the purview of the strong. Weak people cannot afford mercy, and taking chances when the lives of your loved ones are in the balance is so very foolish.

Batman is a goddamn martial arts master. I'm not. That's why I have a gun. The gun is a marvelous equalizer. The guy trying to hurt me can be 300lbs of muscle and with my gun that does not matter. I can still do something.

1. You cannot know for certain in such a situation that murder is the intent, and even Batman refuses to kill.

2. If the only answer to violence is violence than you are no better of a person than they are.

When someone tries to kill someone I care about, I try to kill them right back. This is not a difficult concept

since when does self-defense = lethal force? you are a very disturbed person if you think anyone who looks harmful needs to die.
