Columbus Day weekend in Vermont is a major event for leaf-peepers and nature lovers who make the drive to the Green Mountain state to view its spectacular foliage. But the awe-inspiring landscape is not the only unique feature that draws visitors to this country paradise. Each year, over one million travelers make the pilgrimage to the Vermont Country Store, a family owned business which is as much an experience as it is a store. At over 20,000 square feet, the original store, opened in Weston, VT, by Vrest Orton in 1946, offers something for everyone, including a chance to recall a simpler time. Here, Eliot Orton, shares his impressions of one of his favorite weekends of the year.
Boy, I asked my girls to look at this to see what it's like here in the Eastern States.
I think I did a bad thing. They want Santa to bring them goodies from VCS, so I guess I'll put in the request for them. They are so envious of the Fall colors and the homey look of Vermont and it's people. :+)....I'm so lucky to be part of this area.
