What kind of pumping unit is this? This is well "U.P. Unit 6" (API#03712225) operated by Vintage/Oxy in the LA East oilfield, Commerce, California. Several of the LA East wells use this kind of pump instead of conventional pumpjacks. This well produced 5,622 bbl in 2008. Like other oil wells in this area, it's fenced in between parking lots and industrial buildings/warehouses.

  • Based off of the CFM's of gas put out in 2008, I would guess it has enough downhole pressure to push the oil up without artificial lift. They are probably trying to get more gas than oil with this unit. That probably also explains why you can't have "open lights" around it. Not sure about that though. Seems like old technology.

  • I usually assume that these old oilfields in California don't have enough downhole pressure anymore, but you might be right. It didn't seem like there was anything pumping on this well...?
