On Friday 9th May 2008 the Class 40 Preservation Society mainline machine 40145 ran light engine from Warrington Arpley to York to collect a Rail Head Treatment Train set and take it across the Pennines to the East Lancashire Railway - the RHTT set will be used for water cannon trials at the ELR. Here we see one of two shots of this heavyweight locomotive as it runs forwards and backwards past the signal box at Castleton. The driver was John Atkinson and the secondman was Adrian Henderson. This was a rare move for 40145, and this shot would not have been possible but for CFPS Chairman John Stephens who kindly offered me a lift.

  • Thanks theamateurbasher, its returning back to York at the end of the month so I will try to get another file when that comes around. John Wantling, Rochdale, UK

  • Smashing stuff as ever John. Maybe Network Rail should consider using 40145 for this Autumn's RHTT trains; that would be a brilliant chance for this old girl to get dirty at last! Five stars
