Shot on my round the world trip in 2009- read more at www.whereisyvette.com!

A leopard and hyena fighting over a dead baby zebra at Mala Mala Game Reserve in South Africa! Filmed on June 16, 2009- the leopard had gotten the kill a few hours prior but you can see the carcass is just too large for him to drag into a tree, making him vulnerable to others who might want to steal his food. Who will win the battle?!

Oh, and the fretting you can hear about the camera refers to how it was blinking a low battery warning the entire time this event was occurring, so I was very worried it would run out of juice during the filming. Luckily this did not become an issue.

  • So the Hyena got the best part while the Leopard had to settle for eating the ass and crotch area,,,

  • For those who argue about: "oh, why they share the food and don't try to kill each other? ".

They got a similar size and are obviously more eager to eat than to fight and get injured! That may appears weird but it's more efficient to share in fact. Both of them can have enough of a Zebra ;)

  • @MrLUISVIELMAN

What the hell are you talking !?!

People live together, why the heck are you talking a shit like that !

  • @phoenix75888 Hyenas prefer the soft parts while the Leopard likes the muscles. Different diet, not necessary one better than the other.

  • @phoenix75888 Have you never eaten the leg of the chicken, hmm delicious.

  • I think that paw to the face really rattled the hyena. to bad the video stops but..it caused the hyena to back off.

  • If they can eat at the same table, why shouldn't we. If two natural enemies that act by instinct can ineteract for the sake of survival, why people with a "superior" brain can not get alone and live together, perhaps this inferior creatures are smarter than what we think we are.

  • He Hyena's jaw kinda snapped on the leopards paw at 1:30 making it get pissed off

  • @phoenix: Leopard has a habit of eating the hindquarters and groin area first. They all do that even if there is no competition for the kill. Read, "Into the Thorns" by Wayne Michael Grant. Great book about Leopards.

Wish more good footage had less human commentary. Annoying.

  • 1:27 Get the hell out of here!!
