I don't know if there is another baseball announcer with the talent of Vins. I have heard and seen his work for many many years and have never heard another announcer better than him. While he announces the game he'd tell you many little stories and bits of info off book and books on who was on the mound, who was at bat and what ever. The info he gives makes the listening to the game the more interesting. WHAT OTHER ANOUNCER DOES IT BETTER? IS THERE A BETTER ANOUCERS? eltetunte@yahoo.com

We love you Vin Scully, It seems like he is the only bright spot left in the Dodger's organization. Fuck you Frank McCourt, I can only hope that piece of shit won't pull a Georgia Frontiere on us.

Vin Scully is the epitome of class. Too bad that you can no longer say the same about the Dodgers.

everytime i watch a dodger game and vin scully is broadcasting, i at least learn 1 fact,

I feel for Vinny, he has to sit in the same booth with this jackass

Vin was offered, by Roone Arledge, to be the first PBP broadcaster for Monday Night Football in 1970. Vin said he thought it would be just a part time job, and he could keep his job with the Dodgers (taking Mondays in September off). But Arledge said that Vin would have to give up his Dodger job and join ABC Sports full time. So Vin turned it down. Vin later became a NFL broadcaster for CBS, who had no problem with him keeping his Dodger job.

Actually what happened was that Mel Allen was fired by the Yankees after the 1964 season. Vin was offered the job. He said, years later, that if he had an offer like that in, say, the early 60's, he would have taken it, mostly because his wife (at the time) was homesick for New York. But by '64 they both became adjusted to life in LA and their kids had all been born there.
I'm a Reds fan but Vin Scully is the best announcer hands down. He is class all the way and has a talent that so many younger announcers don't have. he knows when to be quiet and let the crowd tell the story. Just listen to his call of Hank Aaron's 715th home run or Kirk Gibson's game 1 winning home run from the 1988 world series. Perfect. I hope he never retires.

I spent the first 11 years of my life in LA. wherever I go I take Dodger pride with me. Nowadays I can only name one Dodger. . . Vin Scully. finest in the business. His voice is the fondest memory of my childhood. He would of been just as classy with the Yankees. Thanks for staying Dodger blue Mr. Scully!!
