October 28th, 2009, the First District Court of Appeals held oral arguments at the University of Florida's Law School. The case of the City of Alachua's repeated violations of Florida's Open Meetings and Public Records laws was heard. Prof. Joe Little, of UF, argued the case for the plaintiffs, Charles Grapski and Michael Canney. Rod Smith, former Gubernatorial candidate who was formerly the State Senator and prior to that State Attorney for the area, represented the City. He is now being considered as the Democratic running mate in the next Governor's race.
