F.A.Q. & Supplies Needed:

1. Why are there different cakes in your tutorial? Because of the amount of steps it takes to make, I recorded these in sections and used what was dry / available. Sorry if that was confusing.

2. How long does it take to make the cakes? At least 3 days since drying time is involved. When I make squishy cakes, I either make them in bulk or just once and not make another one for at least a month.

3. Why did you use so much scribbles on the cake? I believe frosting on a cake should be abundant (who wants to eat cake with no frosting), so I add as much as I like. If you have limited supplies, just keep in mind the foam soaks up the scribbles and that's why you need to add "layers".

4. Will you be selling your cakes? Yes, I have at least 12 I am making right now and once done, I will put them on my website to sell or save for trades (when and IF I re-open trades).

5. What camera do you use? To record the tuts, I use my Samsung HD video cam QIO (purchased at Best Buy). To photograph my charms / creations, I use my Nikon D90 DSLR and a macro lens.

6. Where do you buy your supplies? Mainly at Michaels or Joann Fabrics. All the supplies I list below were purchased from either.

7. You didn't show how to make the lanyard? I know, I'm sorry. I had to cut down the video. But, all you have to do is cut the ribbon to the desired length, add a bit of glue to the inside of the ribbon crimp and add the ribbon and crimp it. Use a large jump ring to attach the two ends of the ribbon. Voila!

8. Why are there crickets in the background? If I added music, this video would have been blocked in some countries and I just didn't want dead silence, so I added the soothing sounds of crickets. ;)

9. Can we trade or are your trades open? Sorry, trades are closed as I am still working through my waiting list. If and when I plan on re-opening, I will post a video. If I do not respond to your PM or comment about trades, it's because I noted it here. Thanks.

10. Can you do a charm review for me? Absolutely! Just PM me and I will send you my PO Box. Please, do NOT sent me any extras. Just your charms to review is great. Also, let me know if you want me to send your charms back or other.

Supplies Needed:

Lanyard: 2 ribbon crimps, ribbon, 1 large jump or split ring, long eye pin, jewelry-making tools, lanyard clip, small square mirror, and glue to secure your ribbon to the crimp (optional).

Squishy Cake: Airtex (or any brand) foam in white, desired color of acrylic paint (cake flavor), desired color of scribbles (cake frosting), white silicone (whip cream), star #18 tip for (whip cream border), random findings for decorations and an electric knife to cut my cake (optiona, use scissors to be safe). Findings can be cabachons, rhinestones, erasers (like the heart ones I show and purchased at Michaels), pearls, glitter, etc. Let your imagination run wild!

Tools: Electric knife (optional), X-Acto knife, flat nose pliers, round nose pliers, plastic paint spatula, toothpicks, needle tool and hot glue gun.

  • cant you use squishy clay dough instead of foam? ive seen how to make it on youtube. it looks more like a professional squishy cuz its smoother. o:

  • @MapIeMania If you mean like Model Magic or air dry clay, you can, but foam is pretty durable and the "holes" look similar to the texture of cake. Squishier too. :)

  • what kind of icing tip did you use when you were piping the silicone on the squishy cake?

    please reply. thanks! :)

  • @TheSweetsCafe Wilton metal #14 tip. $0.99 at any craft store or where they sell cake decorating supplies. :)

  • im so sorry i keep asking these questions! but i really cant find the foam anywhere! what does the packaging look like? and does it come in bulk or do i have to buy it seperatley? did you have to cut it to that size? im sooo sorry that i keep asking these questions.

  • @RAWRsoundslikeburp Don't be sorry. I bought the foam at Joann Fabrics. The brand is Airtex, but you can use any kind of foam. The color is white and it comes in this large rectangle (packaging is clear with red and blue writing on it). It's in the aisle where all the foam is. I then take it home and cut the foam into any shape using an electric knife (but you can use scissors or a blade). Michae's doesn't carry foam anymore.
