I agree, except that the Police one is awesome and iconic and Pinback one is too slow and boring.

We do love the Police, but we weren't trying to copy them.

For one thing the many part is played on a bass.

It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Although I love The Police, I have to say that the Pinback one seems much more sophisticated in terms of writing. Not to say The Police are stupid or untalented by any means.

Good call! I bought this Pinback CD when it first came out and Message in a Bottle is the first thing I thought as well. I always skip this song as it drones on and on. The rest of the album is great! Nice post Cakeyizm.
