The Concert for Bangladesh was the first major concert for humanitarian relief in world history. It was organized by Ex-Beatle star George Harrison and indian music maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar for the refugees of the East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) fleeing e atrocities by the Pakistani Armed Forces and their collaborators during 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. It was composed of two concerts held at noon and 7 PM on August 1, 1971 at the Madison Square Garden in New York city. A group of internationally acclaimed artists like Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Billy Preston, Leon Russell, Badfinger, and Ringo Starr, Ravi Shankar played to a crwod of 40,000 music lovers. The concert raised about US $ 243,418.51 for Bangladesh relief, which was administered by UNICEF. later In 1971 an album was released, followed a concert film in 1972. In 2005, the film was reissued on DVD, accompanied by a new documentary. Sales of the album and DVD continue to benefit the George Harrison Fund for UNICEF.
