Lyrics

Im gonna sit on a big fluffy cloud
Looking down at the tops of the heads of the crowds
Moving round and around the dark center of town
With their eyes all searching for something that cant be found
Im gonna laugh at the top of my lungs til
I cant quite remember just what the joke was
But the laughter will fill up my body with love
Which is always what Ive been told Im supposed to want

And Im gonna fly on a plane to the sky
Which my mind will devise using science thats being forgotten
Cause Im getting bored of the town of New York
How the worlds been transformed into a big apple and its gotten so rotten

While all the world makes money so stoically
I will be building my home out of poetry
Scraps of old volumes, wire and glue,
Will be something, though feeble, its all I can do
In the back of the room my fingers will shake
With the fury of someone with something to make
That will take him so far, far away from this place
That hell never look back at all the worms and the snakes

And theyll lick at my heals, but they arent even real
I will twirl and wheel through the skyway, high over the steeple
And Ill take you with me and well grow old and lovely
Well eat fine apples from the tree of knowledge of good and evil
You wont know about that

Burning with all the things I must do
To get free of the wasteland of wire and glue
I am wandering from cage to cage at the Bronx zoo
And Im renaming all of the animals
I cant just wait on my knees in the chapel
To be bitten into like a worm in the apple
Im digging for freedom, its all for a shovel
Im dirty; my fingertips hurt me

The kids of Atlantis, magazines beneath the mattress
With their names in the atlas of heartbreak are calling my name
And Im feeling baffled, the worm in the apple,
But the cold water tap will rain down upon me
And nothing will be the same
Its all gonna be different now
I hope.

  • I heard this on Louder Than a Bomb too and really liked it. Not to mention those kids have such an enormous talent that I can't even imagine how far they're going to go with the written word.

  • tickles

  • @stoli288 I thought that too. Maybe it's become a cliche for the character of the song, whover that may be. Maybe he/she had a "Holden Caulfield" philosophy of "I gotta get the hell outta this place." haha

  • @stoli288 There's so much to do, that it becomes overwhelming. Eventually all you long for is something different, you become desensitized to the constant excitement. I've felt this way many times before.

  • all true and great but how can ny ever become boring??

  • SUCH an amazing song.

  • Also, it reminds me alot of NMH...
