Half a week late because of a broken graphics card, here's the latest ITV in the face, about the hapless Geordie franchise, Tyne Tees. The first one made entirely with Adobe Premiere, which proved to be a nightmare when chopping it up. JUST BECAUSE I AM MAKING A VIDEO FILE DOESN'T MEAN I AUTOMATICALLY WANT IT TO BE FIVE BILLION TETRABYTES LARGE. Next one I'll make for either next Friday or the following Monday, current plan: "The Minors".

Update: I appear to have included the entire Three Rivers Fantasy in this. That wasn't intentional.

  • "about the hapless Geordie franchise, Tyne Tees"

Remember that the Tees bit of the Tyne-Tees is by no means Geordie (and is in fact historically the boundary of County Durham and the North Riding of Yorkshire. Middlesbrough was in Yorkshire, which explained why from around Middlesbrough and Whitby, it was possible to receive both Tyne Tees and Yorkshire TV as you could get signal form both Bilsdale and Pontop Pike.

and the Mackems on Wearside won't thank you for calling them Geordies either.

  • @illuminatusds I know, I know. I've visited Northallerton a bunch of times and watched TTTV, and I'm also part Mackem from a Sunderland great-great-aunt, so I really should know better. But "Geordie" is a sort of genericised trademark for the north-east so I used that.

  • You mentioned in there about Tyne Tees often opting out of network programming and offering us imports instead - they were always doing that - missed almost the whole of Tiswas (they allowed us access to the final series), missed out on The Mersey Pirate and Fun Factory and not even a sniff of Saturday Banana or Our Show - instead giving us old war films. Took a while to get all the Aussie soaps, too!

  • @arthurvasey The Fogwell Flax/Dan Hegarty season? Would have been better if they'd never shown you any of it.

  • Great job on Tyne Tees, when are you going to do Thames?

  • Last of all, probably.

  • @Woollylinnet and of course, Bobby Shafto or, to give him his full title, Robert Shafto MP, was born near Spennymoor in County Durham and was MP for County Durham

  • Cringeworthy

  • nice bit of history ,tyne tees made some great programmes

  • @flupmakintosh No there isn't, you could ask Frank to make it

  • Just to point out, if I may, that the seafaring references weren't entirely lost with the colour ident - the fanfare is in fact based on "Bobby Shafto's Gone To Sea"

Mind you, looking at the song's words, that's pretty much the only mention the sea gets, so perhaps you're right after all...

  • Qual...it...teeeee? What is this "quality" in television that you speak of? Is it a type of cake?
