This is a part 2 of a video that I shot about 3 years ago or more. Yes... I am a bit late. It is a simple technique that you can use to tighten up your doubles. Get clean and crisp. Is it the "Right" technique? Most likely not. So, complain if you like but it has worked for me for 30+ years. I hope you get something out of it. Enjoy.

  • Wish you would have slowed down the vid when you were going with both hands... is this technically a double stroke? When alternating with both hands is the pattern RRLLRRLL or RLRLRLRL? Seems like a double stroke to me since he is not getting consistent 16ths (or whatever) with one hand.

  • Yes, Double Stroke roll. RVP

  • 0:22 - 0:30 was funny. For a moment I was worried you'd had a stroke. Good stuff.

  • Hey this is great! I'm a percussion teacher myself, I think the name of this technique is push pull...

  • 0:20 for stroke

  • multi like.

  • just a question, how long would it take for my left wrist/arm, to get as strong as my more dominate right wrist and arm? by doing these techniques. and by strong i mean as fast, and get more dominate loud strokes as my right?

  • You're completely crazy, but in a good way... I think?

    Regardless, great instructionals!

  • It's the first step to learn when you begin drum.

  • ah, i think that information will help me with that damn "drop catch" technique my tutor was trying to explain to me. I could hardly watch this video because i couldn't stop thinking about how much your voice sounds like the guys voice that does the narration in the spyderman PS2 games !

  • thank you i will try this tomarow i have been working on this but i wasn't explained as well as you did i am also having trouble with my left hand getting the technique, was this common when you first started to learn this technique? thanks randy you are my favorite drum lesson teacher.

  • For this lesson for me,the "Buddy Rich Snare drum ruddiment" system by Ted Mackenzi is amazing in this department. For patterns with single and multi stroke action. But here our friend and hero "Randy" helps us eat the food on our plate quite well! On grip Mackenzie also teaches us to use our pinky off and on to control stick action at different times for multi and single strokes and it also helps us hang on to our stick from launching it. Real stick control!! with speed and fatigue and sweat.
