@mario64rocks....JohnEBPiano has a point; there are always exceptions, though...like if you have a Jedi-level ear (like you can do Wagner transcriptions by ear), then yes, learning classical pieces by ear makes sense. Generally speaking, though, the increasing fetishism on technical perfection and note-perfect recordings convinces the average pianist to always consult the printed score when it concerns itself with classical piano repertoire.
You know whats funny? I'm in music lessons, and it does actually help me learn music faster so... I'm not lazy in fact I'm learning the Sims 2 seasons theme on sheet music which I also have it memorized so you can leave me alone now. :)
It sounds to me like you just don't learn how to read sheet music and apply yourself because you're lazy. If you actually took the time to learn, your musical ear would help you quite a bit. That's inexcusable, if God gave you that gift it's more than likely a nod that he wants you to be a musician. But instead you go "Herp Derp let's go learn Chopin Etudes by ear". Whatever, there's no point in arguing further but I think that's a pretty crummy thing to do.
Well that's stupid.. MY gift from God is playing by ear and my favorite music is... Well classical, and your telling me not to play what I hear? I can't help it, it's my gift and talent. And Classical music is most challenging and so I playthat by ear challenging myself.
