Though the stage was smaller, Ozzie Smith was a far worse power hitter than Maz and still hit that Pennant-winning homer.

No he didn't. That was Game 5. The Cards still had to win one more. It was Jack Clark who homered in the top of the 9th off Tom Niedenfuer in Game 6 and, with 3 more outs, got the Cards the Pennant. If the Dodgers had won those last 2 games at home, Ozzie's homer would have been a footnote. But since they're the Dodgers, they didn't.
