A description of the treatment of neuropathic pain, using transdermal applications such as creams. In our centre we develop specific topical creams for the treatment of neuropathic pain, for instance creams containing 5 or 10% amitriptyline, ketamine and isosorbide dinitrate. These creams are part of a treatment porgramme based on Integrated Medicine.
There are many people in the Netherlands suffering from neuropathic pains, almost 1% of our entire population and nearly 150,000 new patients each year! There are a number of centers in the Netherlands where there is adequate expertise in the field of diagnosis of neuropathy. But treatment of neuropathic pain remains difficult. Creams containing analgesics are sometimes working wonderfully for patients. Here a general introduction into analgesic creams in the treatment of painful neuropathy. Presented by Jan M. Keppel Hesselink, MD, PhD, director R&D from the Institute for Neuropathy and Neuropathic pain, Soest, NL, www.neuropathie.nu and www.neuropathy.nl
