Shamardal being retired through injury after this victory was a real blow. He had the ability to gallop his rivals into submission and potentially he could have gone through the rest of the 2005 season unbeaten. There was nothing around to touch him over a mile as I'm sure he would have had the measure of Starcraft & Dubawi. Even over 1m 2f he would have been tough to beat as he would certainly have been capable of mixing it with Oratorio, Azamour & Motivator over that trip.
