A short video of 60019 Bittern dressed as former classmate 4492, passing Purton, Gloucestershire on the Severn Estuary with the Cathedrals Express rail tour to Cardiff Central. I was intending to see the loco run around at Cogan, and it leaving Cardiff on the return, but when I got to Cogan in the afternoon it started to rain heavily, so I gave up. On top of this sorry I tend to zoom out too quickly now, I will try and change this.

Thank you to GJDobbzy and JBTEvans

  • That's a classic location Jamie, and you've done a superb job at capturing the A4 on it's way to Cardiff...Bob

  • @robmasterman Thank you as always Bob, I would of liked to do a shot of it returning, but as usual the rain stopped any attempts at that.

  • I watched this in 1080p - superb detail. My new computer allows me to play High Deffinition without buffering, so am looking to upgrade my camcorder to match.

What camera are you using to get such good results?

  • @Arrowjockey Hello, the camcorder I use is a Sony Handycam HDR-XR550VE, in 1080i and XV Colour mode with a ECM-HST1 mic. It's a good camera, but I feel it lacks sharpness compared to my previous Sony HD camera, in the video I added on sharpness at 25% in FCE as a trial and it seems to have improved it. It's not cheap at around £1000, but it seems to get the job done alright, but like I said you may want to add some sharpness in the edit. I wish I could play it in 1080p! Thanks for the comment.

  • @Arrowjockey Looking on the internet, most other people seem to have no problems with it. It seems like I may be over exaggerating it, and to be honest it seems fine on camcorder and in FCE when editing. It's just when it gets compressed on Youtube it seems to get slightly affected. But overall it's a good camera

  • Great vid. Lovely engine and a lovely spot. Were you on a boat? If you were marvellous idea. Very adventurous. I filmed DNZ at Clapham Junction. I got sound of it climbing but the wind took some of it away. Have a look/comment. I would have rated your film a like if I could.

  • @bkendlerA4 Thank you! It wasn't in a boat but it was on a very small piece of land that sticks out into the river, although there was a boat that had been dumped on it, but it isn't in a condition you would want to put into the water! I will watch your video now, thanks for the comment

  • nice location :P god of hellfire owns this place i think,or gatcombe manor. he might sail between the two on the boat we saw there.

  • @MoiUnMouton Thank you! Purton is a very nice location, with a busy line and nice setting. The only problem is its isolation, if you haven't got a car it's almost impossible to get to, and you have to turn up 2 - 3 hours early due to how many people go there, we were the first people there 2 hours early, and 20 minutes later it was full! Thanks for the comment

  • I really liked your video, thanks for posting it. What a great location! I saw her passing Bracknell earlier in the day, which is a bit less picturesque.
